This CTE, CSU transferable course is a recommendation from industry advisory committees to help better prepare students to service all aspects of automatic and manual transmissions. The course is part of the Certificate of Achievement-Advanced and A.S. degree in Automotive Chassis and Powertrain. It is also required for NATEF (National Automotive Teacher Education Foundation) certification.

Assignments

    2. Perform a transmission flush
    3. Flush and flow check a trans cooler

Methods of Evaluation


  1. Weekly multiple choice and/or essay questions that cover the topic discussed in class. Tests will be graded and scored with points awarded for each correct answer.
  2. A mid-term exam will be given at the halfway point of the class consisting of multiple choice and/or essay that cover all of the material covered in class to that point. Tests will be graded and scored with points awarded for each correct answer.
  3. A hands on performance exam given at the mid point of the quarter that will be similar to several of the activities completed in class. Points will be given for each task done correctly.
  4. A hands on performance exam given at the end of the quarter that will be similar to several of the activities completed in class. Points will be given for each task done correctly.
  5. A comprehensive final exam of multiple choice and/or essay questions. Tests will be graded and scored with points awarded for each correct answer.

Course Objectives

  • Explain the operation of the powertrain component which he is assigned
  • Identify which powertrain component is at fault
  • Prepare a diagnostic check list and write a repair procedure
  • Follow this diagnostic repair procedure and repair the offending component(s)
  • Complete the assigned repair within twice the flat rate established by the manufacturer

    2. Power flow through a Ravigneaux gear set.
  2. Identify which powertrain component is at fault

    2. Perform visual inspection of transmission components.
  3. Prepare a diagnostic check list and write a repair procedure
    1. Identify transmission and research common failures
    2. Prepare a diagnostic plan with a logical flow
  4. Follow this diagnostic repair procedure and repair the offending component(s)
    1. Proper use of test equipment
    2. Analyze test results to determine fault.
