- Self-paced projects and computer based training on CAD software. Instruction is in the use of CAD technology to create models and drawings complying with ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Learning assistance is provided in a designated °®¶¹´«Ã½ center by an approved °®¶¹´«Ã½ instructor who is trained in CAD software.

Course Justification
This Design and Manufacturing Technologies course is a major employment preparation course for our Computer Aided Design (CAD) program. This stand-alone CTE course is intended to better prepare students for work in the advanced manufacturing, design and engineering fields utilizing Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing standards within parametric models and drawings as advised by our industry advisory committee.

Methods of Evaluation
- Successful completion of computer aided design assignments with output verifying modeling correctness and precision; use of structured design intent principles, and documentation.
- CAD Lab activity - Practice and demonstration of techniques in the student laboratory designed to demonstrate critical thinking skills and to problem solve as required in the assignments and experimental investigations.
- A comprehensive final project (engineering documentation package) that includes component and assembly models, assembly and detail drawings and worksheets. The documentation package includes CAD modeling and documentation exercises that will require students to summarize, integrate, and critically analyze the major theoretical perspectives, modes of inquiry, and the important core concepts examined throughout the course.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives
Course Objectives
- Utilize CAD Laboratory equipment properly to survey the complex interdependent geometry of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing(GD&T).
- Practice skill sets on available classroom computer and available training material for appropriate detailing utilizing ASME Y14.5M-2009 standards in applicable CAD system.
CSLOs
- Create an engineering document package which complies with industry-defined standards and shall include the following: components modeled using CAD design tools; assemblies generated from multiple components; engineering drawings for components and assemblies.
Outline
- Utilize CAD Laboratory equipment properly to survey the complex interdependent geometry of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing(GD&T).
- Import and setup application programs in part mode.
- Understand basic CAD commands, dashboard to detail with proper nomenclature.
- Input design data using detailing, sketches and feature tools for assigned geometry.
- Practice skill sets on available classroom computer and available training material for appropriate detailing utilizing ASME Y14.5M-2009 standards in applicable CAD system.
- Editing and detailing simple part design data using symbolic language on engineering drawings
- Output of design documentation with current drafting standards with functional projects and its allowable variation.
