Ethics and Leadership in Criminal Justice
Course Description
This course examines the historical foundations of ethical theories and how they influenced the development of ethical behavior and critical thinking in value-based decision-making within the criminal justice field. The course also studies how an ethical mindset impacts the development of leadership skills and professional conduct. The course will additionally examine and analyze the future of ethical responsibilities and the consequences that result from unethical behavior by criminal justice professionals.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Compare and contrast ethical theories that influence and determine decision making and critical thinking.
- Identify and explain the utilization of the ethical decision-making process in making value-based decisions in the resolution of ethical dilemmas.
- Analyze and discuss the consequences of ethical behavior's influence on leadership within the criminal justice system.
- Identify and evaluate the consequences of individual responsibility for ethical and unethical decisions and actions.
