Faculty ordinarily contribute professionally to the District in one or more of the following areas, including but not limited to: research, creative activity, new curriculum development, special projects, division/department committees and task forces, institution-wide meetings and committees, hiring and tenure review committees . . . Faculty shall use their own professional judgment in determining the nature and extent of their voluntary performance of these unassigned activities." and Whereas, the Academic Senate values: Reflection and self-evaluation as a component of the faculty evaluation process in which faculty are encouraged to discuss the efficacy of their instruction Student centered learning which includes consideration of student needs, abilities, backgrounds, and differences with the instructor as facilitator A culture of inquiry in which instructors creatively assess their pedagogical efficacy upon students completing a course or program of study Therefore Be it Resolved, that the Academic Senate directs its officers to promote the revision of the FA contract I0.7.1 by adding the student learning outcomes process amongst the list of items, and Be it Finally Resolved, that the Academic Senate promote the value of student learning outcomes assessment cycles where assessment is used in a culture of inquiry to improve teaching and learning as a part of the faculty's professional contributions to the college.
